Global survey: the importance of religion in your daily life
Continuing with the theme of religion from yesterday’s post, results from Gallup’s 2007-08 State of the World - Religion Survey have been released, showing that 45% of Canadians say religion is an important part of their daily lives—a number comparable to that of New Hampshire, Taiwan, South Korea, Montegro and Switzerland.
Though the United States, at 65%, is more religious than the average for “rich-world” countries (38%), it falls well below the world average of 82%, though certain U.S. states like Alabama and Mississippi come out at or near that number.
Though the U.S. figures are unsurprising, the fact that 45% of Canadians feel this strongly about religion is a bit unexpected. It would be worth seeing the breakdown by age and other demographic factors.
